Help with Quilt

Write to us, delete your account, or sort out a sign-in, pairing or sync problem. This page is for the Quilt app on iPhone and on your Windows computer.

Contact us

Email hello@joinquilt.app. We read every message.

To help us help you faster, include:

  • What you were doing, and what you expected to happen instead.
  • Your device and version. On iPhone, tap the Settings gear, then About, for the version and build. On your computer, open Settings, then Account & billing, then Advanced, then About.
  • The email address you signed up with, so we can find your account.

You can also use Something's off? in the app. On iPhone it is under the Settings gear. On your computer it is under Help. It shows you exactly what will be sent before anything is.

Please never send us your sync passphrase or your recovery key. We do not need them, and we cannot use them.

Delete your account

You can delete your account yourself, in the app.

On iPhone

  1. Tap the Settings gear, then Accounts.
  2. Tap Delete account and read the list.
  3. Tap Delete account again, then confirm Delete account in the "Delete your account?" box.

On your computer

  1. Open Settings, then Account & billing.
  2. Under Delete your account, click Delete account… and read the list.
  3. Type delete my account when asked, then click Delete account.

Deleting is permanent and cannot be undone. If something goes wrong part of the way through, Quilt tells you, keeps your data on the device, and lets you try again. If Quilt is locked, unlock it first. If a few things on your device could not be cleared, deleting the Quilt app removes them.

What gets deleted, and where

WhereWhat is deleted
Quilt's serversYour encrypted sync data, your list of paired devices, your encrypted recovery envelope, backups of your computer's credential key, your phone's notification address, the list of accounts you connected and any saved copies of their connection tokens, and anything else stored against your Quilt sign-in, such as usage counts. Access you gave to other apps is removed too.
BillingYour subscription, if you have one, is cancelled. Your customer record at our payment provider is deleted. Your billing account, referral code, waitlist entry and any invite codes nobody has used yet are erased.
Sign-inYour Quilt account, meaning your email and password.
The iPhone you delete fromThe local database of messages and calendar, your connected-account sign-ins, the master key, the recovery-key backup in your iCloud Keychain, your settings and your drafts.
The computer you delete fromThe local database, your connected-account sign-ins, the saved sync key, and your settings and drafts. A key you pasted in for your own AI account stays in your computer's credential store until you remove it.

What is not deleted

  • Data on your other devices. It stays there until you remove Quilt from them.
  • Anything in your Google or Microsoft account. Deleting your Quilt account does not change it, including mail Quilt sent or changes made through Quilt. To remove Quilt's access, open that account's security settings.
  • Records the law requires. Our payment provider may keep transaction records after we delete your customer record.
  • A few records we remove on request. Messages you sent to support and entries on the alpha sign-up list are not removed automatically. Write to us and we will remove them.
  • An invite you already gave out. If someone signed up with it, their account stays. What remains is an anonymous account number, with no name or email.

Sign-in and sync help

I cannot sign in

  • Sign in with the email and password you created. Check the email for typos, and look for a confirmation message after you sign up.
  • On your computer, use Forgot password? to reset your password.
  • Quilt is invite-only right now. If you do not have an invite, request one.
  • Still stuck? Email us from the address you signed up with.

I forgot my sync passphrase

  • Your passphrase protects the key to your synced data, and we never see it. That is also why we cannot reset it.
  • You can use the 24-word recovery key that Quilt showed you once when you set up encrypted sync. On iPhone you may have saved it to your iCloud Keychain too: tap Forgot passphrase?, then Restore from Apple ID.
  • If the passphrase and the recovery key are both gone, and no paired device still holds your key, the synced data cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. Your original messages are still at Google or Microsoft.

I want to pair my iPhone with my computer

  1. On your computer, open Settings, then Account & billing. Under Your phone and other devices, click Add your phone. If you see Enter your passphrase there instead, click it first. Confirm it is you with Windows Hello or your passphrase. A QR code appears.
  2. On your iPhone, tap the Settings gear, open Advanced, then Devices. On a phone that has never been set up, tap Already use Quilt on your computer? Add this phone to it instead. On a phone that asks for your passphrase, tap Add this phone from another device. Allow the camera and scan the code, then tap Add this phone.
  3. Confirm sending the key on your computer. Both screens show the same 4-digit code. If they match, you are paired. Keep Quilt open while your mail arrives.

If the camera is off for Quilt, the app shows an Open Settings button so you can turn it back on. You do not need a computer to use Quilt on an iPhone: sign in, connect Gmail or Outlook, and Q fetches your mail onto the phone.

My inbox is empty, or accounts are missing

  • After pairing, wait for the first batch. The inbox says "Bringing your mail in from your computer" and asks you to keep Quilt open for a minute while it arrives.
  • On iPhone, pull down on the inbox list to refresh.
  • If it still looks wrong, tap the Settings gear, open Advanced, then Details for support. Copy the line under Copy this line and send it to us. Check everything again on that screen brings everything in again, and it starts at once.

Drafted replies and cloud AI

Quilt's own AI account never sees your mail. On your computer, drafts, Ask and the other features that read your mail run on your own Claude key and go straight from your computer to Anthropic. On iPhone, drafts are written on the phone by Apple Intelligence, and nothing is sent to Anthropic for them. Both have an On this device only switch: on your computer it is Privacy Max, under Settings, then Q's brain, and it turns off all cloud help, including Hey Q. On iPhone it is under the Settings gear, then Q's brain. A question you send from your phone to your computer follows the stricter of the two. Your data, in plain English explains what is sent.
