Quilt and Superhuman Mail
Superhuman Mail is an email client with AI features. Quilt is a personal agent that also covers messages, calendar and meeting notes. They overlap most in email.
| Topic | Quilt | Superhuman Mail |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A personal AI agent for your mail, messages, calendar and meeting notes. You talk to it as Q. Invite-only. | An email client with AI features. The company behind it, formerly Grammarly, renamed itself Superhuman. Its suite also includes Grammarly, Coda and Superhuman Go.1 |
| Where it runs | A Windows desktop app and an iPhone app. Q is on all three of its screens: Q, Inbox and Calendar. How it works | A Mac desktop app, a Chrome extension, iPhone and iPad, and Android.2 |
| What it connects to | Gmail and Outlook email and calendars, plus Slack and WhatsApp chats, kept together in one Inbox and one Calendar. | Gmail and Outlook accounts, with Google and Outlook calendars shown together. The Mail MCP server, on the Business plan and above, lets AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT search, draft and send email and manage events.36 |
| Where your data is processed and stored | Your calendar, meeting notes and Q's memory are stored on your devices, with an index of your mail. When Hey Q uses a cloud model, the request goes from your device straight to Anthropic, using your own Claude key. Email text never goes to Quilt's own AI. Privacy Max turns off all cloud help, including Hey Q. Exactly what goes where | With Ask AI on, Mail stores your emails through a third-party vendor that its help center describes as SOC 2 compliant. Ask AI queries and responses are stored. Instant Reply and Auto Summarize ones are kept for 90 days.45 |
| Training on your data | Quilt never trains on your data. During the alpha, Q uses your own Claude key, so Anthropic's terms for API keys apply to requests made with it. Quilt's servers are not in that path. Details | Its help center says neither Mail nor any vendor trains on your data. When you use the Mail MCP server with an outside AI tool, that tool provider's own policies apply to the data it receives.456 |
| Acting for you | A cloud model only suggests steps. Q can draft and propose, and cannot send, pay, post or delete. You press send. Inbox changes show a preview, apply when you tap, and can be undone. | Auto Drafts write a reply for you to edit and send. Through the Mail MCP server, an outside AI tool can search, draft and send email. Superhuman says the send tool can send emails instantly and advises turning on confirmation in your AI app. Whether it asks first is a setting in that AI app, not in Superhuman Mail.67 |
| Meeting notes | Yes, on Windows. Q listens on your computer and nothing joins the call. It asks before each meeting, and gives you summary, decisions and to-dos afterward. How it works | We did not find a meeting notes feature in the AI feature list of Superhuman Mail.5 |
| Availability | Invite-only for now, on Windows and iPhone. Free during the alpha. | Paid plans for each team member, called Starter and Business, plus an Enterprise plan you arrange with its sales team. Ask AI, Auto Drafts and the Mail MCP need the Business plan or above.468 |
